How to use Beyond PSP in your vegetable garden
Share
Beyond PSP is the easiest place to start with biological growing. It does one job well: it gives young plants a strong start by supplying microbes, organic matter and biostimulants right where they are needed, at the root zone.
This guide tells you when to use it, how much to use, and how to apply it. It applies to seedlings, transplants and direct-sown beds.
When to use Beyond PSP
Apply Beyond PSP at planting. That is the single best time to use it. The microbes go in alongside the young root and establish a working relationship from day one. Roots that grow alongside healthy microbes branch more, reach deeper and access more nutrients.
You can also apply Beyond PSP to existing beds before a new planting cycle. Spread it over the bed, water it in, and plant on top a week later. This is useful when you are reclaiming a bed that has been growing the same crop for a few seasons and needs a reset.
How much to use
Two simple methods.
- At the planting hole. For each transplant, place one heaped tablespoon (around 15 g) of Beyond PSP at the bottom of the hole. Cover with a thin layer of soil. Plant the seedling on top. Water in well.
- Broadcast on the bed. For a bed you are preparing in advance, scatter 200 g per square metre evenly over the surface. Rake it lightly into the top 5 cm. Water well. Plant five to seven days later.
For a 10 m² home garden, expect to use around 2 kg per planting cycle. The 1 kg pack in the Patch Pack covers about 5 m² with the broadcast method, or 60 to 70 transplants with the planting-hole method.
Step-by-step
Tools you need: a hand trowel, a watering can, a measuring spoon for accuracy.
- Dig the planting hole slightly deeper than the root ball of the seedling.
- Add one heaped tablespoon of Beyond PSP into the bottom of the hole.
- Cover with a thin sprinkle of soil so the root does not sit directly on the product.
- Place the seedling and firm the soil around it gently.
- Water in well. The first watering activates the microbes.
- Mulch around the seedling with straw, grass clippings or wood chips to keep the soil cool and moist.
What to expect
You should see stronger leaf colour by week two and visibly bigger root development if you lift a plant by week four. Plants treated with Beyond PSP at planting tend to recover faster from transplant shock and hold up better in dry weeks.
You will not always see a dramatic top-growth difference in the first month. The work is happening at the root, where you cannot see it. The pay-off becomes obvious at flowering and fruiting.
What to pair it with
Beyond PSP works best as part of a small programme. Add a foliar feed of SeaBrix™ every two to three weeks during growth. If the plants face heat or transplant stress, add a quick spray of AminoK™. Both products are stocked in the Plot Pack and Grower Pack.
Common mistakes
- Putting the seedling root directly onto the product. Always cover the Beyond PSP with a thin layer of soil first.
- Skipping the first watering. The microbes need water to wake up. A dry application sits inert until it rains.
- Using too much. More is not better. Stick to the rates above. Saving the rest of the pack for the next planting works in your favour.
